The first months my website was online, I was constantly checking the search engines to see if my site was listed under the keywords that I was targeting. And always with the same negative results.

The truth is that the keywords that you are targeting are often not showing your site the first months at all on the first 200 search listings. OK,if you try to get your site listed for hoooohjgaagga or something like that, it could get you a first place in no time. But who wants to target that keyword?

In fact, I get a lot more traffic from keywords that I haven't thought of using as a keyword in the first place. One tool that I have found online can easily show you the keywords that your site is ranking well for.

You can find it at: http://www.googlerankings.com/ultimate_seo_tool.php Here you simply enter your domain name and hit the "Analyze Keyword" button.

If you want to,you can change the different settings on this page before you hit the button. But I usually leave this at default.

Then on the next page you can see a detailed report on keywords that are found on your site. You can see their numbers and density. It shows the number of 2 Word Phrases and 3 Word Phrases.

Step 2 Create Position Report

Now to the cool part of this tool. When you hit this button, the tool will search Google for the keywords and keyword phrases that it have gathered from your site. After a few seconds it shows your position for each of them. So now you don't have to wonder if your site is listed in Google.

But as I said, the first months you shouldn't be worried if you don't find your site under any keyword at all. Google use a lot of time to index new websites. I have found that MSN are a lot faster to show my pages under the keyword that I want.

Most people I meet seem to dread writing articles and seem to always complain or have something negative to say when it comes to adding content, writing a post etc. Some are just plain lazy and some don't see it as powerful or successful enough. hey often say that the kind of articles they write don't bring them any real traffic. The reason in most cases is that they don't write often enough and by often enough I mean once a day. Neither do they submit it to enough or at least a few quality article submission sites.

They simply think if they write a few articles a month it would bring a huge surge of traffic lasting for eternity, but unfortunately we don't live in never never land and little boys can't fly...

Use some of their ideas and be sure to put it over in your own words, never ever copy someone else's hard work... It's illegal and foolish.

If you are only starting off with article writing and marketing go for the easier option of writing benefit-laden type articles. Benefit-laden also known as "List type" articles are for instance articles that begin with: 20 Questions to...., or 30 Ways you could... etc. This is one of the easiest types to write and to write a lot of.

Close off your article by bringing everything you said above together. A compelling closing statement that leaves the reader wanting more in which case he or she clicks through to your site... Voila!

Today Google is one of the most used search engines for searches today, I will provide a list of thing that you can do to increase your site search results for a targeted keyword. Using these tips will not only increase your results with Google but will help with other Search Engines such as Yahoo & MSN.

Before you start to promote your site over the internet, it is best to first find out what search term or also known as "keyword" that you want to use to build your campaign. It should be a keyword that is related to your site and one that is actually being searched for. A great keyword research tool that you can use is Google Keyword Tool. Using this tool you can type in a keyword manually or let Google analyze your site by typing in your site address. It will return all the keywords that are found on your site and you can filter the results by search volume and competition.

Once you choose your keyword or keywords you will want to implement this in your site which is known as On-Page Optimization. Ensure that your keywords Meta tag reflect that your keywords are included; the keyword should be in your Title or at least a variation. Also in your site content it is best to have this keyword in your content in the right places but don't keywords stuff your site where it may look unnatural. When a keyword accounts for 10% of the entire page content this is too much. When using keywords in your site, Search Engines will pick up if the keywords are in bold or italic. There are more ways to optimize your on page content but there is too much to cover in this article. I started with the basics.

Now for Off-Page Optimization also known as link building, this is one of the most important factors when it comes to your site getting ranked in Google. There are many options when building links. Generally it is best to get your site listed on high page rank pages that are relevant to your site. But that is always not so easy to do. The first link building technique I will mention is Article Submissions. Article Marketing can greatly increase your Google search exposure. You can write an article about something that is related to your site's content, and at the end of the article you can add 3 anchor texts and 3 hyperlinks that will point back to your site. You can then submit this article to article directories and when your site is accepted into the directory you will get back links from the hyperlinks in the article. When creating the anchor texts in the articles make sure you are using your targeted keywords that I mentioned earlier.

Another link building option is submitting your website to website directories or also known as search directories. There are many free ones out there that you can submit your site to. Just like the article submission, when your site is listed on a web directory you will get a backlink from the directory which passes "juice" onto your site. When creating the information to submit your website to directories the most important thing is choosing the right Anchor Text. Make sure when you create Anchor text you are again using your targeted keywords in it. Also make at least 5 variations of the anchor text. If Google sees your site was submitted to 500 directories all with the same anchor text this may be seen as duplicate content and then you most likely will not receive credit for the backlink.

These are just a few ways that you can increase your Google Search Engine Result Page's. There are many other ways for link building and On-Page Optimization.

There are two types of site maps you should be aware of.

The first type is a list of everything on your site. This is primarily for humans visiting your site, but it also makes it easier for all of the search engines to spider your sites because your links are all listed on one page.

The other type of site map is an xml file. This type of site map will help you in getting spidered by Google. However, if you can get a good thorough spider by Google, then you'll be able to get easily spidered by other search engines because they spider one another.

You can get more information building site maps at Google.com. They also offer plenty of free tools and scripts you can use to easily build a site map.

3. Linking

Building links to your site will help you because you'll have more places on the internet where you can be found.

However, it isn't good enough to have lots of links pointing to your site. You need relevant links, that is, sites that are related to, and complement, your site.

I recommend that you apply the rule of five here: try to add your site to at least five new sites per day. At the end of the year, you could have over 1,500 links pointing back to your site.

You can also use a site like Link Metro, http://www.linkmetro.com. Although you can get a lot of link offers here very quickly, you want to make sure that you only choose sites that are related to yours and that your link isn't buried somewhere on the site. You shouldn't have to click more than twice from the main page in order to find your link. If you do, even if the site is related, reject this link because it probably won't do you any good.

Although search engine optimization can be an involved marketing technique, it's free, and it will bring targeted traffic to your site. Choose classic search engine optimization techniques that always work, and you can quickly raise your rankings and drive targeted traffic to your site.

Before Googles appearance, search engines used a search algorithm called Meta search. The search engines would crawl only the content (keywords) between Meta tags placed on sites. This led to search engine abuse (spamming) by inserting unrelated keywords into Meta tags. An example would be a search for Used Cars resulting in an Adult web site.

Search engines fought spammers by developing advanced crawling algorithms/systems. These new technologies would look between Meta tags and also at actual on-page content. Spammers then expanded their methods to make websites rank higher using techniques called Hidden Text, Hidden Links, White Text on White Background, to name a few.

Google engineers introduced another algorithm to their search engine model whereby instead of searching for keywords in Meta tags or on-page content, they also looked at the keywords within the anchor text (incoming link text) of incoming links. If the keywords searched matched the keywords in the anchor text of incoming links, then your site would show up.

Again, spammers figured out the algorithm and starting planting links on every other page of a site, even if the pages were not related to the site theme. In July of 2003, Google engineered a massive update in their search engine. It was called the Florida Update and many highly ranked websites suddenly lost their positions and instead appeared on the 100th 200th Google page results. Google has become the most popular search engine due to its relevancy and accuracy of search results. This technology has also been implemented by other search engine giants, Yahoo and MSN.

The SEO industry now understands and believes that it is not only important to have as many incoming links as possible, but the links must come only from theme related sites. In order to make a site rank high on search engines, link development is a must. It is considered the most complicated and slowest process of search engine optimization but very successful in the long run.

An apt analogy would be links for votes. The more links/votes a site/candidate possesses, the more successful their campaign will be.

Web site traffic building is one of the most important things you can do to your web site. You see, without traffic, your web site really is not effective someone has to get to your web site before you can make any money or educate someone whatever is the goal of your web site.

So how do I web site traffic build?

I use three techniques primarily.

1) Article marketing for search engine placements. I write articles and submit them to a list of about 100 article directories that generally have a high page rank. This allows my web pages to gain a high page rank, and therefore my pages come up high in natural search engine rankings. When this happens, I get web site traffic built for me, no additional trouble at all.

2) Article writing for direct traffic. Now with this technique, I write articles like this one and submit them to only one web site http://www.ezinearticles.com. The reason I only submit these articles here is that I get 10 times more traffic, at minimum, from this site than from any other web sites out there. So in the time it takes me to submit to 10 more article sites, I can easily write another article and I make more money that way.

3) My own list! I think that this is one area where people forget that they can get traffic their very own list. I regularly send people to my web pages. Imagine if you had a Adsense optimized blog set up and each of your list subscribers visited that page every day how much more money would you make online?
