When your writing an article, you have to be dedicated to writing that article. You cannot have any distractions. The more distractions you have, the worst your article will turn out to be. Even if you just have relaxing music in the background, your writing style will become diluted and tasteless.

You want your article to scream out that you made it. You have to concentrate on your article. But don't concentrate too hard. Just hard enough that you can write nonstop without stopping because of a distraction. Remember, the best way to dominate the market is to flood the market as fast and as much as you can. SEO blogs are a great place to learn more about SEO. Two of the most authoritative SEO blogs are SEO Book and SEO Moz. I like these two blogs because the bloggers, Aaron Wall at SEO Book and Rand Fishkin and his staff at SEO Moz, have a lot of practical SEO experience. Also, both blogs are updated often, so you can expect to learn something new every week. To keep up with the blog updates, subscribe to the respective RSS feeds.

There are also blogs about internet marketing. Two good ones are Click Newz and V7N. These two blogs are good places to keep up with the latest internet marketing news and information. Also, Jim Boykin's blog is an excellent place to learn about link building.

If you frequent the forums and blogs I've listed for a couple of weeks, you will quickly gain knowledge and skill in the SEO industry.

Gorilla SEO | Search Engine Survival Skills

Everyone with a web site wants to be in the #1 spot of the major search engines. With the constant changing of the search criteria, how can you avoid getting eaten by the competition?

The answer is to spread out your SEO efforts, or employ what I like to call Gorilla SEO. There are 4 basic steps I try to keep in mind whenever I am promoting my web sites

Step 1, Work with the search engines, I don't mean load up your pages with redundant keywords until no one can make heads or tails out of it. I mean find the keywords that are similar to the main word but slightly different. If "vitamin" is your key word, try words like nutrition, or supplements to build on. When you Google "vitamin" there are over 95,000,000 results, that is a lot of pages to beat out. On the other hand if you Google Supplements there are only 325,000 results. Much less crowded and much easier to get the search engines to notice you.

Step 2, work with the overall plan in mind for your site. When developing your traffic strategy, keep keyword optimization in mind. Do keyword research before you do anything else, then build your plan around the openings. This is gorilla SEO at its finest.

Step 3, Always keep your site fresh by adding content. This is easy if you have a Blog, but even if you have a traditional site, you can add content by adding pages or new products. Most web sites now have blogs for just this reason. The benefit is that it keeps the web crawlers coming back to update what you have done.

Step 4, develop a link building strategy. In order to increase the site ranking on the search engines you have to develop links to your site. There is any number of ways to do this. You can spend money buying links on popular sites, or you can employ one of my favorite gorilla SEO techniques. This is a little known way to build quality links to your web site, just leave relevant comments on public content. Articles (like this), blogs, forums are all excellent places to comment and build links to your site.

Set a goal for your self to comment at one article per day. It will get easier to do the more you do it and the links will start to add up.

Remember to keep your overall strategy in mind, narrow your focus, search for the back door keywords, and you will be a master of gorilla SEO, the predator, not the prey.

Remember that volume is key to succeeding using this method of promotion. The higher the number of articles the greater your number of subscribers and sales. Try to write at least 10 to 20 articles a day. If you are doing less than this you simply will not be making enough noise in the marketplace.

When I first started out I was sending all my traffic to a sales page with very little success. You need to focus on sending all your traffic to a squeeze page so that you can build a list. I also suggest that you get a professional autoresponder account like Getresponse. Every time somebody subscribes to your newsletter they will automatically be added to your autoresponder so that you can follow up with them.

Meta tags used to be the big, bad beasts of search engine optimization. If you manipulated them just right, you could get high rankings. Those days are gone, but they still are important.

The meta title is a very important for a number of reasons. From the perspective of getting rankings, it is helpful in identifying what is on the page in question. This, of course, means you better have a meta title that actually describes what is on the page in question.

Assuming you do, the meta title is very valuable for a reason many don't really think about. How so? Well, it actually can be used to bring in clicks from people reviewing the search engine page results. Consider the following example.

Assume I am looking to buy a construction invoice software program. I do a search for the phrase on Google, Yahoo, MSN or whatever. Ten results are kicked out and I start reading the titles. The meta titles appear as the first bold and underlined phrase for each listing.

Now, what result am I most likely to click? Most studies reveal that I'll click one of the first three. There is, however, more to the story. I am also more likely to click the result that uses the exact phrase I have searched for. In this case, I am more likely to click the listing that has the title that says "construction invoice software program" because that is what I search for.

This also raises a secondary issue regarding the meta title. Simply put, how many keywords should you put in it? There are different philosophies. Some people try to stick to one keyword phrase while others shoot for multiple phrases. Personally, I tend to go with one keyword phrase so long as it equates to at least three words in the phrase.

At the end of the day, the meta title does not play the role it used to years ago when meta tags were king. It does, however, still have a decent effect on rankings and a strong impact on getting people to click through to your site.

If you are really serious about promoting your business writing and submitting articles, you need to have a plan. Most occasional bum marketers will submit ten articles and will not see any results.

Who said that article marketing was easy?

Step 1: Write and submit more articles.

You can't submit 10 articles per month and except to see results. This form of advertising is only effective if your articles are consistently in front of potential publishers.

I mean that you should submit articles weekly. In fact, every single day, you need to get at least 10 articles out there.

I know, it's a lot but it's the price to pay for success. If you want to see tremendous results and increase your profits considerably, submit more articles.

Step 2: Submit to more directories.

You can't rely on a single article directory like you don't need to submit to hundreds and hundreds of them.

The right strategy is to submit to the best one. It's counter intuitive since everybody teach that you need to use services like isnare.com or articlemarketer.com to get results.

I don't follow this advice because my results are the proof that my strategy works.

Here is a small sample of my results:

I get top search engine rankings because I use the right anchor text in my resource box.

2. Thousands of monthly visitors to my webpages

The targeted traffic comes from three different sources:

* The article directories themselves

* The different search engine results pages

* Potential customers researching information about me or one of my products
